Our Story and Vision

YouSeeClear was born out of the dream to expand access to affordable eyeglasses and eye examinations to those living in the developing world and to provide them with a small product that makes a large impact. We aim to address the epidemic of vision impairment in Asian and Middle Eastern countries by using advanced and innovative technology to provide affordable glasses to the poor. Currently, there are 500 million to 1 billion people who are visually impaired and have no access to proper vision care. Visual impairment on such a large scale affects a society in a variety of ways. Uncorrected vision can reduce an employee's productivity by up to 20 percent, which in turn results in an estimated loss of $270 billion from the global economy on an annual basis. Among children, untreated vision impairment results in a child becoming three times more likely that they will fail at least one grade. Because 90 percent of the world’s visually impaired live in developing countries, these realities have a staggering impact on the human potential of the world’s poorest. 

Beginning in Afghanistan in early 2017, YouSeeClear will work with the country's thirty four provinces and corresponding villages to cut Afghanistan's visual impairment rates in half by 2021. As a result of providing affordable glasses, we hope to dramatically increase literacy and education completion rates, as well as overall worker efficiency as measured by GDP per capita. Our goal is not only to revolutionize vision care in Afghanistan, but also to return resources, hope, and dignity to the people of Afghanistan who have experienced decades of war and instability.
